Scholarships and Grants

Each student is responsible for financing the cost of his or her attendance at Aquinas Institute of Theology. Graduate study is an expensive undertaking. Thus, students may need to consider spending a portion of their savings and assets, pursuing support from sources such as parents, family, employer, their local parish, congregation, or denomination, and must be willing to pursue at least part-time employment.

Two types of aid are available through Aquinas Institute of Theology: (1) Aquinas Institute Scholarships and Grants; (2) Federal Stafford Loans.

Aquinas Institute uses the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine eligibility for both federal financial aid and Aquinas scholarships and grants. Log onto to access their on-line services. After your FAFSA has been processed, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR). Aquinas uses a computerized version of your SAR to determine your eligibility for financial aid.

The financial aid committee also uses financial aid application materials, recommendations, and sometimes personal interviews to determine the type and amount of financial awards given. While federal loans may be obtained to cover ordinary living expenses such as housing and travel, Aquinas Institute awards scholarships and grants to cover the cost of tuition only.

Appeal Process

If you believe the financial aid decision does not accurately reflect your need, you may request another review. Your request must be in writing and should clearly state your reasons for the appeal. An appeal does not guarantee additional assistance.

Academic Progress

Students must remain in good academic standing, (maintain a GPA of 3.00 or “B”) to remain eligible for financial aid. If a student falls below this standard he or she will have one semester on probation in which to return to good standing. If the student does not achieve good standing during that semester, they will be ineligible for future aid. However, they may reapply if they eventually meet the academic requirements of their program.
